Did you know that painted ladies (the butterflies, that is) taste with their feet and have 10,000 eyes? The kit comes with a relatively easy-to-assemble observation chamber; supplies for feeding the butterflies (you provide only sugar and water); an informative booklet of clear instructions and butterfly facts; and a certificate for three to five free painted lady caterpillars. The metamorphosis from larva to butterfly takes about three weeks from when you receive the caterpillar larvae (which arrive in a small container with all the nutrients they need). Your children can watch the larvae increase dramatically in size, form chrysalides, and finally emerge into full-fledged painted ladies (it’s suggested that they release the butterflies after a few days of observation). This would make a wonderful activity for families with kids of any age, but younger children will need help assembling the observation chamber and reading the instruction booklet. Butterflies at home
My kids love this! They begged me to get one after doing this activity at their preschool. We got the kit, sent away for the larvae and received them in about a week.

Wonderful fun for young and old!!!!!!
We received our catepillars in a timely manner (about 2 weeks). We received 5 catepillars. 4/5 made a cocoon.

Absolutely Awesome!!!
This thing was fantastic. The caterpillars come in a clear plastic container which allows you to see everything! I think I almost loved the things more than my kids! AWESOME!

No Larvae yet – NO online ordering, phone wait 30+ minutes
I am anicipating my kids enjoying this someday when they get the needed larvae. You CANNOT order the larvae online despite them saying you can. Try their insectlore.

doesn’t come with larvae
This product doesn’t come with the live butterfly larvae. One can order them online or call them with phone or fax.

Very happy with that educational toy!!! my 5 year old daughter was very excited to watch cattepilars growing, when turning into crystalids, and feeding butterflies.

This is so neat!
I will admit that I am more enthusiastic about this garden than my kids are. I think the whole process is fascinating! When the caterpillars arrived, only 1 was moving.
